I'm the Son of a Gun

Oh whoa hey waitaminute ART. Been a long time since we've seen that, huh? It's not that I haven't been drawing, it's just that the stuff I have isn't really interesting enough to post. Expect for this.

So this past Sunday was my friend's birthday, and her mom surprised her with tickets for me and her to see the American Idiot play on Broadway. I originally wasn't really sure if I wanted to see it or not, but hey, free ticket, so why not.

And it was actually pretty good. So good, in fact, that it pretty much instantly inspired me to make this, a picture of Saint Jimmy, who's pretty much the antagonist of the play. That's actually how he looked, and you can think of him as the "little devil on the main character's shoulder". The background's all about him and his bad influencing nature, like insisting Jesus of Suburbia that his girlfriend was his enemy (hence the photo on the right), and the TV was inspired by the show's stage which actually had loads of screen built into the walls. And then the whole roughed up thing going on in the background has to relate to the art style of the show.

I pretty much had this envisioned just like this from the start. Wanted to do a rough style so that's why the lines are all funky. Came out pretty good, I think. The angle of his face could be worked on a bit more (he's supposed to be looking down while looking at the viewer) but I'm actually pretty proud of this. It took a total of three days to do but DAMN this file is huge. Like, 13x19 inches huge. Working for print is annoying (and I have to for my AP Art class, which means pretty much every piece I do now is for that.) Really like how the background came out though, considering how BAD I am at those. Although for some reason I've developed a hobby of only drawing faces and torsos this year

The shirt graphic was also found searching the internet. The writing on the background are the lyrics to "Saint Jimmy" the song and the actual writing is my own (it took forever to get a signature I was happy with, seriously.) I made pretty much all of Saint Jimmy, though, and of course put everything together. OH YEAH I FORGOT TO MENTION MY TEACHER'S LENDING ME A TABLET BUT OF COURSE YOU CAN'T REALLY TELL WITH THIS PICTURE OTHER THAN THE WRITING WHOOPS.
