A quick & helpful guideline for photographers to help them choose models and how to find them.
Artist's CommentsLet me know how you feel about both this image and the fact that I'm drawing something other than Sonic and Zelda! I get the award for most crappy titles... First off, let me make something clear: I have never played a Jak and Daxter game in my life. Waaaaay back when Jak II came out (and that's 2004), I watched my friend play it, so I've seen VERY little gameplay and VERY few cutscenes. But, anyway, so I've been burning myself CD of video game music, and I thought to myself, "You know, the music from Haven City in Jak II sounded pretty cool...", and so, I burned that on the CD. That got me to realize, wow, Jak's a pretty cool character. After that I watched a couple of cutscenes on YouTube (and by a couple, I mean about four), and I decided that I wanted to draw Jak. For a first timer, this actually came out seriously, surprisingly well. Really, the sketch came out better than I expected. In fact, it has to be one of the cleanest sketches I've ever done. See for yourself. It even looks clean saved as a low-quality JPEG! So, I've been working on coloring this for a long, long time now. "less dodgy/burny more painty/painty", is what ~Rising-Phoenix87 told me back with Marine, and so I tried doing a little painting-like thing for this. I did use the dodge and burns at times, but hey, I'm getting there! There are plenty of things that I think I've could have done better on, but I don't think that it's too shabby, either. The thing about Jak is that he's too simple, and his body is so thin that I kept making him look like a girl while coloring. I exerpimented a lot when it came to the metal effects, along with the cloth. His eyes actually came out pretty nice. Moving onto Dark Jak: he was a last minute addition. If it looks like he is a recolor, that's because...well...he is. I just modified the colors and added what needed to be. I HATE his horns, though, trying to blend it in with the hair was a pain. The idea I was going for this was a playing card sort of design. One flaw I noticed while combining the two, however, was that they were not made to blend in with each other. I then thought that perhaps adding Daxter in the center might have looked nice, but I was so sick of coloring this, and I couldn't find ANY good references for him, along with Dark Jak. Jak had plenty. I finally went with a bolt of lighting (that's 1.21 Gigawatts!) to seperate them, as a reference to the official art. His shoulder pad looks like a Koopa shell... I like this all the same, anyway, cheap background and all. Unfortunetly, I'll never know the awesome of playing a Jak game, since I lack that wonderful creation I would like to call a PS2. But there's no way in HELL I'm going to get a PS3, not until the price is WAY down. Anyway, I hope you like it! Fun fact: green and yellow are my least favorite colors! Try to stay away from critiquing Dark Jak, I know I was lazy with him... Jak Layers: 44 Darl Jak Layers: 42 Finally getting done with this: Priceless. Jak belongs to Naughty Dog, this belongs to me. If there's one thing I realized, it's that when I draw something for the first time, I put in in a crappy pose. Hope you guys like it! EDIT: And just now I realized that I forgot the straps on the side of his shrit. Damn it! |
