Oh my god, you guys! I can't believe how awesome you guys are! I got so many awesome comments on my journal, I just couldn't believe it :D You guys are the best friends ever!

I absoluetly had to post something for you guys. I mean, the title says it all, right? So, I drew this so, so long ago. I'd want to say probably even over a year ago. I showed a few people this and they agreed that I should color this.

Well, I've been coloring it. For nine months. And it came out rather awesome, I've gotta say! Anyway, I drew this for Studio Art homework and mainly drew it as a perspective pratice on characters--I tried to demonstrate foreshortening on Sonic's arm and foot mainly. I've been coloring this on and off for those nine months, and it's impossible to know how long it took hours-wise, but what I can tell you is that it did take a lot of work.

Sonic was completely done in Painter X, and I'm extremely proud of how he came out. The only Photoshop on him was just a little smudging on his left ear and the shading around his mouth, and that was it. I'm so proud of it, especially since I didn't use dodge and burn what so ever! I can't exactly remember the whole strategy, but I can tell you that it was mostly done by airbrushing and smudging colors. It was a load of fun, and I tried my best to make it perfect--I kept telling myself ok, I know you're sick of this but if you give up now it'll look really crappy. And that's really an annoying habit. I tried drawing Sonic in my style and put a little stress on the muscles of his legs and his quills. I also tried putting quite some detail into his hands, and...crap, he's missing a finger D: Whoops. I totally love how he came out, anyhow.

As for the background, I could not, for the life of me, get one that would work. I originally tried drawing it in Painter, and it turned out terrible. So then I took it to Photoshop and tried coloring it there, but that attempt wasn't better either. I planned on having the background be a sunset, since it would provide a nice contrast to Sonic, but couldn't get the sky to look right. I tried using a stock photo but the quality looked bad in comparison to the drawing. I then tried using a stock photo of a day-time beach scene, but it looked terrible.

I finally decided to give a little nostalgia feeling and used an in-game shot of Green Hill Zone and added a blur to make Sonic stand out more. The sandy hillside and the grass effects were done with Photoshop--I brushed a white layer using the grass brush and put it on overlay to give the grass its effect, and the sand was done by the noise filter. I then added a blob and after a few adjustments it came out looking like a shadow.

Lastly, I just had to add the thanks at the bottom. There's no way I could do any of this without you guys! I can't tell you how happy I am to see you all again, and I promise not to leave ever, ever again :D

This is all for you.

I know some of you guys are probably hoping that I'd branch of to drawing other things but Sonic, and I have, but this was closest to being done with coloring and I just had to post it!

Copyrights go to Sonic Team for the character and the background.
I drew this and colored it, and it took really, really long (almost a year) so I would seriously appriciate it if you guys didn't steal. I'm pretty sure it totals out to 42 layers.

And I just gotta say it one last time: I love you guys.

PS-Notice how I didn't put the "Comment before Faving" icon. That's because, while I would seriously appriciate critiques so I know what to improve on this, I didn't want it to seem like I was nagging right when I just got back.

EDIT [9/3/09]: Is it sad that this is honestly my best fanart piece and yet my most unpopular? :ohnoes: Maybe I should've made him punk, then this thing would get like a kajillion hits.
